One Team One Family One Goal.
Was that goal ever met. Last Saturday at Nordhoff High School in Ojai amongst lots of cheering families and friends, the Santa Barbara Division 2 White Saints beat the Santa Ynez Pirates 14-0 to win the coveted 2013 YFL Super Bowl Championship.

This great team of 9-10 year olds have been working hard the last 4 months to get to this goal. They’ve been practicing 3 days a week over at the East Side Boys & Girls Club under the great coaching staff of Doug Engel (head coach), Willie Slone, Jerome Garrett, Tyler Forsey, Kim Kjar and Jeremy Kjar.
Coach Engel had this to say about this group of boys: “These boys came together, a lot of them in their first year in YFL and they did everything we asked them to do. Every week they got better, they learned to work together and it really showed in this last game.
Earlier in the season we lost to this team in overtime and these boys wanted revenge. It was our game, these boys wanted it and they made it happen. As coaches we couldn’t be more proud of what they’ve done.”
There’s only two Division 2 YFL teams in Santa Barbara. That’s less than 60 kids in town. They play teams as far north as Nipomo and south as Ojai. The White Saints went 10-2 for the season.
