Santa Barbara High celebrated the return of some missing players with a 9-0 blowout of visiting Nordhoff in a non-league girls soccer match on Monday.
Hannah Brisby and Chanti Gonzales each scored two goals and Alea Hyatt had three assists as the Dons improved to 4-0-1.
“It was a good night as we just about had our full team back since we have been missing players due to injury and club commitments,” Santa Barbara coach Jeff Johnson said. “In our three previous games, we ended with 9-10 players, so getting our full team on the field was important, plus it gave the opportunity for other players to stay off the field in order to nurse their injuries.”
Dani Smith scored off a Bailey Wolf assist to start the scoring for the Dons. Abby Guillen followed with a goal, assisted by Hyatt.
Jackie Lopez fed Brisby to make it 3-0 and Hyatt recorded her second assist on a goal by Paige Lambert.
Brisby assisted on Maisie Zimmerman’s goal and then scored the sixth goal from Smith and Hyatt. Lopez finished an assist from Lambert and Gonzales scored the last two goals on assists from Smith, Erin Graf and Lambert.
“There were many bright areas in the game tonight which provided glimpses of some very exciting things to come, and we kept a clean sheet,” said Johnson.
