San Marcos put 15 shots on frame against Pacifica in its girls soccer opener on Tuesday, but the Royals could finish only one and dropped a 3-1 decision.
“Major kudos to the Pacifica goalkeeper,” San Marcos coach Macie Berlin said. “We couldn’t find the pockets around her. We were knocking, credit to her.”
Chloe Hamer scored for the Royals in the 41st minute off an assist from Olivia Jones. That tied the score at 1-1.
Pacifica broke the deadlock in the 65th minute and secured the win with a third goal in the 70th minute.
“They were quick on the counter,” Berlin said of Pacifica. “Defensively, we crumbled a little bit. Offensively, we were on point. It was a humbling game for us.”
The Royals are back in action Thursday at Oxnard.
