Freshman Kiara Pickett scored four goals, helping the Dos Pueblos girls soccer team win the Santa Maria Holiday Tournament last weekend.
Pickett scored in the championship game, a 2-0 win over Ocean View High of Huntington Beach. Idalis Rodrigues tallied the first goal in the 24th minute after receiving a perfect pass from Shelby Hoffman.
Dos Pueblos opened the tournament in dramatic fashion, winning a penalty-kick shootout with Paso Robles. Goalkeeper Alex Camarillo came up with a big save to give the Chargers a 7-6 victory. The teams were tied 2-2 after regulation and extra time.
DP’s offense was on fire against Coast Union, rolling up an 8-0 win. Courtney Miller and Pickett each scored two goals and Rodriquez, Anya Smith, Janet Marqeuz and Emily Erwin added one apiece.
The Chargers next beat Tulare Western, 2-1. Megan Gee and Janet Marquez scored the goals.
Dos Pueblos improves to 10-1-2.
While pleased with the results and effort of his team, coach Hugh Hollis said the Chargers suffered injuries to some key players that may keep them sidelined for several weeks.
