Giselle Estrada beat the goalkeeper on a 25-yard shot, and Carpinteria defeated St. Bonaventure 1-0 in a non-league girls soccer match on Thursday.
The Warriors got good play from their midfield in knocking off last year’s CIF semifinalist.
“Our midfield was in complete control of the game, stringing passes together at will,” Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant said. “Kelsie Bryant, Alexa Benitez, Lesly Zapata and Giselle were almost able to play a little game of keep away when anyone of them had the ball. We were patient in our buildup tonight, really emphasizing not always going forward but working the ball back and square.”
Erin Durflinger and Monica Garcia led the defense.
Carpinteria is now 1-0-1 on the year.
