A slow start and early foul trouble spelled doom for San Marcos in its girls basketball opener on Wednesday. The Royals fell to Santa Clara, 57-26.
“Our forwards got into foul trouble early, which allowed Santa Clara to get a good amount of offensive rebounds, free throws, and second chance points,” San Marcos coach Kelly Uyesaka said. “We picked up the intensity on defense in the second quarter but they did a great job of executing their game plan. We need to do a better job of playing like we did in the second quarter for the entire game.”
Hope Morrison scored nine points to lead the Royals.
San Marcos plays at the Fillmore Tournament on Thursday at 4:30 against Villanova Prep.
