In the championship game of the Avalon Tournament on Saturday, Mission Prep upped the pressure on Bishop Diego in the second half and downed the Cardinals 46-28.
The Royals trailed 21-15 at halftime but a more aggressive defensive approach in the second half led to a 31-7 change in fortune.
Bishop Diego’s head coach Jeff Burich pointed to his team’s strong play in the first half and the fact that his team will get a rematch at home in two weeks.
“We played one of the better halves offensively and defensively than we have all season,” Burich said.
All-tournament selection Jordyn Lilly led the Cardinals with 15 points and averaged 25.5 points per game during the four-game tournament.
Bishop plays its next game at home on Saturday against Orcutt.
