Santa Barbara High raced out to a 39-18 halftime lead and beat Channel League girls basketball rival Dos Pueblos 68-38 in the championship game of the Lompoc Tournament on Saturday.
“We played well defensively; our press caused problems and our half court defense was pretty good,” said Santa Barbara coach Andrew Butcher.
The Dons improve to 3-1.
Dos Pueblos coach Phil Sherman was impressed with Santa Barbara.
“They were really good,” he said. “The first two games we really played well, shot the ball well. They were solid defensively and they outrebounded us.”
Amber Melgoza scored 20 points, grabbed six rebounds and had three steals to lead the Dons. Jada Howard scored 16 points, Dezzy Coleman tallied 11 points, dished eight assists, grabbed five rebounds and had three steals and Kimberly Gebhardt added four points, eight rebounds and four steals.
