Cate hung on for a 29-27 win over Orcutt Academy on Thursday in the Bishop Diego/Carpinteria girls basketball tournament.
Orcutt had a last-second shot to tie the game and send it into overtime, but the ball rolled around the rim and fell into the hands of Cates Delaney Mayfield as time ran out.
Cate’s Erika Noble scored 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, and had four steals before she fouled out with a minute or so to go in the fourth quarter.
“She played most of the second half with four fouls because we simply needed her on the floor to steady our team,” said Cate assistant coach Jay Dorion.
Mikaela Li and Miriam Weiss each scored six points for the Rams and Charlotte Pecot played solid defense on Orcutt’s best player, holding her to two points. Mayfield grabbed eight rebounds.
