Goalkeeper Kyle Carter made a diving save on a penalty kick in the final two minutes, and San Marcos escaped Arroyo Grande with a 2-2 draw on Tuesday in a non-league boys soccer match.
San Marcos was leading 2-1 when Arroyo Grande tied the score on a well-placed header off a corner kicker in the 70th minute. The Royals maintained their poise and pressured the Eagles. They had shots hit both posts in the last five minutes.
Arroyo Grande took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when San Marcos failed to clear a ball. The Royals bounced back and Sergio Alvarez and Luis Torres scored goals for a 2-1 lead.
San Marcos returns home Thursday to play Pacifica at 3:15 p.m.
