Santa Barbara High had a finishing touch right from the start, winning its boys soccer season opener, 4-1, on Tuesday at Simi Valley.
“It was a good start,” said Todd Heil, who won his 297th game as coach of the Dons.
Senior Pepe Barron got things going with a goal in the 12th minute. Sophomore Peter Ruiz followed 10 minutes later with his first varsity goal. The Dons led 2-0 at halftime.
Rusino Sanchez made it 3-0 eight minutes into the second half before Simi Valley got on the scoreboard.
Sophomore Abraham Sierra finished the scoring with his first varsity goal in the 68th minute.
Heil praised the play of centerbacks Jumoke Hutton and Reggie Gonzalez.
The Dons head to Lancaster this weekend to compete in the Palmdale Invitational.
