Carpinteria’s boys basketball team closed out the Fillmore Tournament on Saturday with a 59-40 victory over Channel Islands.
The Warriors won with only seven players, getting big contributions from Omar Miranda and Rayshaun Moore. Miranda totaled 17 points and five assists while Moore collected 13 points and four assists. Collin Nathanson played start to finish for the Warriors. Duncan Gordon grabbed 10 rebounds.
Carpinteria led by 13 at halftime but the Raiders opened the third quarter on a run and closed the gap to three points. Warriors head coach Johnny Ward said that’s when the team started playing defense again, which led to lots of easy baskets.
Carpinteria finished the game making 24 of 35 field goal attempts taken inside the 3-point arc.
The Warriors came back after a 53-47 loss to Rosamond on Friday in a game in which Bryson Frazer scored a season-high 20 points.
The Warriors host the Jim Bashore Holiday Cage Classic starting on Monday. Their tournament-opener is against Laguna Blanca at 7:30 p.m.
