Eddie Galvan’s buzzer-beating bucket beat San Marcos on Saturday as Galvan’s boys basketball team from Pacifica edged the Royals 61-59.
It’s the first loss of the season for San Marcos (4-1), which was led in scoring by Bryce Ridenour’s 34. The senior added eight rebounds, three assists and four steals to a full stat line.
Galvan finished with 12 points while Deondre Vines scored 22 to lead the Tritons. Pacifica improves to 4-1.
San Marcos erased Pacifica’s seven-point lead late in the fourth quarter to almost force overtime.
“We didn’t show up to play today and we proved we aren’t good enough to just show up. We have to come ready to play every game,” reported Royals head coach Dave Odell. “We played with the intensity I’m accustomed to in the last 2 minutes and erased the deficit….but we proved we can’t wait to play hard or we are susceptible to bad breaks and great shots”
San Marcos plays next on Monday against Nordhoff in the opener of Carpinteria High’s Jim Bashore Tournament.
