Dos Pueblos stepped up its defensive play in the second half and pulled out a 47-43 boys basketball win over Santa Clara at the Ventura Kiwanis Tournament on Thursday.
The Chargers went on a 13-0 run from the third quarter to the fourth to break open a tight game.
Dayne Gardiner scored 11 points and Jayson Williams added nine for the Chargers (3-7). Freshman Anthony Trujillo hit a pair of 3-pointers which allowed DP to build a lead.
“Jayson Williams did a good job running the offense and Matt Sessler did a good job in the paint against their post players,” said DP coach Joe Zamora.
Isaiah Nichols scored 19 points to lead Santa Clara.
Dos Pueblos returns to the tournament on Friday to play either Oak Park of Agoura.
