Carpinteria outscored Cate 23-3 in the third quarter and rolled to a 58-37 boys basketball win on Tuesday.
After leading by only two at halftime (24-22), the Warriors capitalized on Cate turnovers to open up a big lead.
Omar Miranda scored 18 points and Duncan Gordon added 11 to lead Carpinteria.
“I received strong play from my guards once again,” Carpinteria coach Johnny Ward said. “Omar Miranda led the way. I also was very pleased with the spark and energy that Bryson Frazer gave us off of the bench in his first game action of the season and as a Warrior. He came in and changed the tempo and momentum into our favor, especially in the second half. He came in and had a couple of steals, which led to some easy baskets to help push our lead and we never looked back.”
Ward also lauded the play of Collin Nathanson off the bench.
Clinton Hall scored 11 points and Ryan Baird added 10 for Cate.
“It was tough getting any chemistry going,” Cate coach Bryan Rodriguez said of the third quarter. “Our offense was nonexistent; we had only one 3-pointer. They took advantage of our turnovers.”
