For the second time this season, Westmont Volleyball (20-6, 6-5 GSAC) avenged an earlier loss with a three-game sweep.
The Mustangs of The Master’s (17-7, 6-5 GSAC) were the Warriors’ latest victim, as the No. 14 team in the NAIA posted a 25-21, 25-23, 25-19 Golden State Athletic Conference win over the eleventh ranked Mustangs.
Senior middle blocker Ciara Turner pounded out 14 kills on 21 attempts to lead the Warriors’ offense. Turner committed just one attack error, resulting in an attack percentage of .619. Freshman outside hitter Jessica McCann added 10 kills to the Warriors’ cause while hitting .333.
With Westmont down 17-15 in the first set, Turner delivered a kill that sparked a 7-1 Warrior run. The run included three kills and two block assists from Turner and put the Warriors in control of the set.
In the second set, the Mustangs tied the score at 23. After a time out called by Westmont head coach Patti Cook, setter Heidi Thompson dumped the ball over the net and Marie Trudelle delivered an ace serve to give Westmont a two set to none lead.
In the final frame, Westmont jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back.
In other Golden State Athletic Conference action, #10 Vanguard (19-6, 7-4) upset #2 Concordia (20-2, 10-1) by a score of 3-2 (24-25, 25-19, 25–23, 21-25, 15-10) in Costa Mesa, handing the Eagles just their second loss this season.
Third-ranked Biola (20-2, 10-1) defeated Arizona Christian (1-20, 0-11) in straight sets while San Diego Christian (6-18, 4-7) posted a victory over Hope International by a score of 3-2 (25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 21-25, 15-11).
With three games remaining in the GSAC season, Concordia and Biola are now tied for first place in the conference standings and are three games ahead of Vanguard who claims third place. Westmont and The Master’s are tied for fourth place, just one game behind Vanguard.
The Warriors will finish their conference road schedule on Saturday when the travel to Biola.
