The third-ranked Eagles of Biola (21-2, 11-1 GSAC) defended their home court on Saturday night, defeating #14 Westmont (20-7, 6-6) in straight sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-18) in a Golden State Athletics Conference match.
Biola’s Amy Weststenyn led all scorers with 15 kills while Alyssa Mason added another 10. Westmont was led by Sydney Striff with seven kills and Ciara Turner with five.
The Warriors struggled offensively, recording just a .091 attack percentage (27 kills and 19 errors on 88 attempts). In each set, the Eagles jumped out to an early lead and the Warriors were unable to make up the difference. In fact, Westmont’s only lead occurred on a kill by Turner on the first point of the first set.
In other GSAC action, #2 Concordia (21-2, 11-1) swept Hope International (5-20, 1-11) and #10 Vanguard (20-6, 8-4) posted a three-set win over San Diego Christian. #11 The Master’s (18-7, 7-5) went on the road to defeated Arizona Christian (1-21, 0-12) by a score of 3-1.
With two games left in the regular season, Biola and Concordia are tied for first in the GSAC standings, three games ahead of third place Vanguard. The Master’s is in fourth place, one game behind Vanguard. Westmont is in fifth, one game further back.
Westmont will close out the regular season with two home games next week. On Tuesday, the Warriors will host Vanguard. Then on Saturday, Westmont will welcome Hope International to Murchison Gymnasium. Both games begin at seven o’clock.
