Azusa Pacific broke open a close game with a 13-3 run late in the second half and went on to beat Westmont 77-62 in a nonconference women’s basketball game on Wednesday night at Murchison Gym.
The Warriors (2-2) trailed by three, 57-54, when the visiting Cougars erupted, capitalizing on missed shots and turnovers. For the game, Azusa scored 18 points off Westmont turnovers.
Kelsie Sampson led Westmont with 16 points and Cora Chan scoffed 10 points off the bench.
Azusa, which is now a NCAA Division 2 program, had three players score in double figures, led by Sandy Valles with 20. Kelly Hardeman had 17 and Laura Gilster added 14.
