Last month, on October 27, the newly-formed surfing team from San Marcos High School competed in their first contest of the season.
Although all kids surfed well, the team lost overall to the powerhouse team from Malibu. However, there were a few individual standouts from Summer Bosse (sophomore), who placed third overall in women’s shortboard and made it to repercharge in women’s long board. Also, Ian Kistner (junior) and Blake Bebensee (senior) made it to the semi finals in men’s shortboard.
The team is coached by Bailey Platt, who volunteers his time, and the co-captains are Summer Bosse and Greg Kronen (junior).
A big thanks to Scholastic Surf Series for all their guidance in starting the team. It was a great day for everyone one the team, including parents who rallied their support by providing tents and a huge spread of food for the kids. By the looks of all the smiles, it’s a sure thing that SMHS is fired up and ready for their next contest which will be held at Heavens on November 24.
A special thanks to Holly Bosse for providing this article!!!
