Richard Caine snapped a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 60th minute on Tuesday as SBCC earned a 3-1 victory at Moorpark in its men’s soccer season finale.
The Vaqueros (11-7) won their last three games and eight of the last 10 to finish second in the WSC with an 11-5 record. Moorpark fell to 7-11-2 and 5-9-1.
The Raiders took a 1-0 lead on a breakaway goal in the 37th minute and Ellis Mavers tied it at 1-1 with a left-footed blast from 18 yards in the final minute of the first half.
Caine put the Vaqueros up 2-1 after Adam Colton dribbled down the right side past two players and pulled the ball back. Kieron Coleman converted from close range in the 73rd minute after taking a long, high ball from Medhi Bedache.
“We were very composed on the ball and strung some good passes together,” said coach John Sisterson. “We deserved to win this game.”
The Vaqueros were the second-highest scoring team in the WSC with 48 goals on the year and allowed only 24 for an average of 1.3 per game.
“It was an up and down season,” Sisterson stated. “Overall, we played very well. This is a good squad and they’ve been recognized by the number of calls from four-year colleges. We’ve had calls from Hawaii to New York, asking about our players.”
