Midfielder Emmanuel “Nana” Akyen and defender Marcos Lopez have been named to the All-GSAC men’s soccer team.
“It’s a well-deserved honor for both of them,” remarked Westmont coach Dave Wolf. “They play on opposite ends of the soccer spectrum, but Nana and Marcos are our foundations on either side of the field.”
Akyen is tied for the team lead with 14 points with junior midfielder Jonathan Yeeles with five goals and four assists on the season. In his career, Akyen has amassed 62 points with 22 goals and 18 assists.
“Nana has not only maintained a consistent level of performance, he has also lifted his own, as well as those around him. His perseverance throughout his career has really improved our team on the whole,” said Wolf.
Lopez has been an integral cog in keeping opponents off of the stat sheet.
Lopez has chronicled playing time in 63 matches as a Warrior, earning a start in 58 of those contests, as well as attaining the starting nod in every game that he has appeared in over the past three seasons. He is also the only player to start every game this season and has played every minute of the 2013 campaign.
“Marcos is, and has been, the cornerstone of our defense. He has provided a lot of stability and it’s great to see him get this honor in his final year here,” said Wolf.
