Prince Arceneaux had 17 points and 11 rebounds on Friday but it wasn’t enough for SBCC, which dropped its men’s basketball opener to West Hills 75-69 at the Cuesta Tournament.
Arceneaux, a 6-7 freshman from Dorsey High in Los Angeles, made 8-of-16 from the field for the Vaqueros, who were tied 25-25 at the half.
“We had too many defensive breakdowns, particularly at the start of the second half,” said coach Morris Hodges. “We were down by four with about 10 minutes to go and gave up two straight 3’s.”
Nick Gianakoulias topped West Valley with 20 points, including 6-13 from the 3-point arc.
DeAndre Wade added nine points for the Vaqueros and Alonso McCain had five assists. The Vaqueros were outshot 50 to 44.6 percent and lost despite a plus-19 rebounding advantage (48-29).
SBCC will take on Cuesta or West Valley at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
