Laguna Blanca prevailed in a shootout to clinch a CIF 8-man football playoff berth on its Senior Day on Saturday.
Quentin Tedesco rushed for five touchdowns and caught a scoring pass to lead the Owls to a wild 66-64 victory over Dunn. The victory gives them a 3-2 league record and a third-place finish. They’re 5-3 overall.
It’s quite an accomplishment for a program that barely could field a team last season and has 16 players this year.
Tedesco also played a big role on defense as he forced two fumbles and recovered two.
But the biggest play was turned in by Daniel Moghtader. With 25 seconds left and Dunn at the Laguna Blanca 3-yard line, he tackled Dunn’s quarterback for a 10-yard loss to seal the win.
Pierce O’Donnell caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Stephen McCaffery, and Andrew Vignolo returned a kickoff 72 yards for a touchdown.
McCaffery had a big day running the Owls’ offense. He pased for 168 yards and rushed for 131.
Coach Shane Lopes lauded the play of Moghtader.
“He played both ways on the line and stepped up to fill in at center,” said Lopes.
The Owls will learn their playoff opponent on Monday.
