Top-seeded Laguna Blanca opened the CIF 4-A Division volleyball playoffs with a sweep over visiting Burbank-Providence on Thursday night. The scores in the second-round match were 25-16, 25-11, 25-9.
Phoebe Madsen led a balanced hitting attack with 12 kills and Grace Woolf and Hannah White each added 10. Clara Madsen kept Providence’s blockers off balance with her setting. She finished with 45 assists.
We’re peaking at the right time,” said Laguna Blanca coach Jim Alzina.
The Owls’ defense was sharp. White led the team with nine kills, while Phoebe Madsen and Chloe Richman added eight apiece.
Alzina said the team’s tough serving threw Providence out of system.
“Our serving seems to be really on right now. We got a lot of free balls, so we were able to run our offense.”
Laguna Blanca (15-2) will travel for its quarterfinal round match on Saturday.
