Cate’s potent attack was too much for St. Mary’s Academy as the second-seeded Rams rolled to a 25-14, 25-14, 25-12 victory in a CIF Division 4-A second-round volleyball match on Thursday in Los Angeles.
“We played pretty well,” said Cate coach Greg Novak, whose team will host a quarterfinal match on Saturday. “We hit .300 as a team. Maddie Becker had eight kills on 12 attempts and no errors.”
Peyton Shelburne led the Cate (15-2) attack with nine kills and Pierce joined Becker with eight putaways. Middle Xandrine Griffin had two solo blocks.
Novak said strong serving also aided in the victory. “We were able to capitalize on our tough serves.”
