Cate’s girls volleyball team reserved a spot in the Southern Section’s Division 4-A CIF semifinals on Saturday with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-21 victory over visiting Paraclete.
“All pistons were firing. Everyone contributed at one point or another,” said Rams head coach Greg Novak, whose No. 2-seeded team has swept each of its three CIF matches so far.
Cate lost the pre-flip and will travel on Tuesday for its semifinal matchup against third-seeded Pacifica Christian, who defeated Nordhoff on Saturday.
Novak said the Rams did a great job of minimizing their errors and keeping the ball away from Paraclete’s strongest hitters.
Peyton Shelburne led the Rams in kills with 11. Cydney Pierce added 10, Delaney Mayfield nine and Tamsyn Walker six. As a team, the Rams hit .340. Mayfield led the team in blocks with five.
Novak also highlighted the play of libero Sumner Matthews.
“She brought a lot of energy,” Novak said. “Some of the digs we had were just phenomenal.”
