Second-seeded Cate breezed in its first-round match in the CIF 4-A Division girls volleyball playoffs, sweeping visiting Rolling Hills Preps, 25-13, 25-6, 25-8.
Freshman middle Delany Mayfield led a balanced attack with eight kills. Peyton Shelburne had seven kills, Maddie Becker six and Tamsyn Walker and Cydney Pierce added five apiece.
“That was good to see,” said Cate coach Greg Novak of the balance. “We hit .415 as a team, and we really improved on our passing tonight.”
The Rams play either Santa Clara or St. Mary’s Academy on Thursday.
