Dos Pueblos completed a cross country double on Thursday as the boys and girls captured team titles at the Channel League Finals at Ventura’s Camino Real Park.
The Charger boys won for the second straight year while the girls claimed their first championships since 2008.
DP’s Addi Zerrenner won the girls individual championship for the third straight year, running a personal record of 17:02 on the course. Adilene Aldapa of San Marcos was second in 18:00 and Natalie McClure of DP took third in 18:02. The other three scorers for the Chargers were Christina Rice (18:19), Elaine McClure (18:51) and Racquel Fygenson (19:21).
Freshman Ruth Hunter of Santa Barbara qualified as an individual for the CIF Prelims by finishing sixth in 18:31. The Dos Pueblos and San Marcos teams advanced to next week’s CIF Prelims at Mt. SAC. The San Marcos girls finished third in the league behind DP and Buena.
Cole Smith finished undefeated in league, leading the CIF Division 2-top-ranked Charger boys to the team title and CIF berth. Smith won in 15:01. Teammate Andrew McGuan was second in 15:08, Eric Salas of San Marcos came in third (15:13) and Ryan Sorensen of the Royals was fifth (15:21).
Rounding out DP’s scoring were John Greening (15:22), Chris Wasjutin (15:31) and Ian Wasjutin (15:41). All three finished in the top 10.
Santa Barbara’s top runner was Bradley Apodaca with a time of 16:22.
San Marcos finished second in the team competition and qualified for the CIF Prelims. The Royals are ranked in Division 3.
