Addi Zerrenner and Cole Smith turned in strong performances at Saturday’s CIF-ss Prelims leading both of Dos Pueblos’ cross country teams to qualification for next week’s CIF-ss Division 2 Final.
Zerrenner manufactured the day’s third-best time across all divisions while winning her heat in 17:06. Only Simi Valley’s Sarah Baxter and Northwood’s Bethan Knights were faster.
Smith was second in his heat and his time of 15:11 was the 12th fastest across all boys divisions.
“It was a really fantastic day,” Roth said, noting how it was the first girls team to advance past Prelims in quite some time, if ever.
The girls team placed fourth in Division 3. Natalie McClure, Christina Rice and Elaine McClure all contributed top-20 results.
The boys team, which reached the State Meet last year, came in second in their heat behind Saugus and fourth overall in the division. Andrew McGuan (10th in 15:38), John Greening (11th in 15:40), and Chris Wasjutin (16th in 15:58) added depth for the Chargers.
