Ryan Sorensen paced San Marcos’ boys cross country team on Saturday as the Royals made their first appearance at the CIF State Cross Country Championships in school history.
Sorensen came in 23rd overall in the Division-3 race with a time of 16 minutes and two seconds. Eric Salas was the next Royal to cross the finish line, recording a time of 16:25 for 49th place. Joe Logan, Nic Swider and Walker Odell also scored for the Royals in that order.
As a team, the Royals were 10th overall out of 23 teams. Jurupa Hills won the State title in Division 3 by posting five top-20 finishers. Southern Section champion Brea Olinda was second.
San Marcos’ Adilene Aldapa was an individual qualifier from the girls team who came in 20th overall in 18:47. The junior came on this year to lead the San Marcos girls team.
The State meet is held on the 3.1-mile course at Woodward Park in Fresno.
