Cate had trouble holding on to the football on Friday and was bounced out of the CIF 8-man playoffs.
Faith Baptist scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and went on to beat the Rams, 50-22, in a quarterfinal game in Canoga Park.
“We lost one fumble and put the ball on the turf six times,” Cate assistant coach Dave Soto said. “We were not very crisp on offense.”
Faith Baptist also picked off two Cate passes. One was returned for a touchdown and the other set up a score.
“You can’t give a good team that many chances to score,” Soto said.
Cate did all of its scoring in the fourth quarter. Max Vasquez had a 3-yard run for a touchdown, quarterback Michael Nettesheim ran for seven yards and threw a 30-yard scoring strike to Keller Mochel.
Cate finished the season at 7-4.
