Sophomore Scott Everman made an impressive varsity debut, scoring 17 points on 7 of 9 shooting and grabbing six rebounds. Senior Bryce Ridenour, a returning All-Channel League selection, was saddled with foul trouble but still managed to score nine points and hand out a game-high eight assists.
The Royals shot 56 percent from the floor and 17-21 from the free-throw line.
“Overall, you can’t ask for too much more from a team out of their first game,” coach Dave Odell said. “I was very pleased with our effort and execution.”
Odell praised the play of sophomores Tyson Miller and Kele Mkpado, who were making their varsity debuts. He also was happy with the play of point guard Christian Widemer.
“Overall, I was pleased with how Christian Widmer ran the team today at the point guard spot. He played great defense and made a perfect 6 for 6 from the free-throw line. “
