WSoc: Slow start costs Vaqueros

L.A. Pierce tallied three goals in the first eight minutes on Tuesday and went on to beat SBCC 3-2 in a showdown for first in the WSC North women’s soccer race.

Santa Barbara (9-4-2, 5-1-2) lost for the first time in more than a month and had its five-game winning streak halted. The Brahmas (10-3-2, 6-0-1) have won six straight since tying the Vaqueros 1-1 in their WSC opener.

Briana Lopez scored in the 28th minute for the Vaqueros and Brandie Harris scored in her fifth straight game in the 32nd minute. Harris, who has 22 goals, had a goal disallowed in the 38th minute and a header by Sam Maxwell in the 90th minute was also waved off.

The Vaqueros will complete a seven-game road trip on Friday with a 1 p.m. game at Moorpark
