SBCC surprised No. 2-ranked Ventura 3-0 on Tuesday night in a WSC women’s soccer match at Ventura College.
Brandie Harris scored two goals for the Vaqueros, who rose to the top of the WSC North standings. The Vaqueros (6-3-2) are 3-0-2 in conference with 11 points, one ahead of L.A. Pierce (3-0-1) and two better than Ventura.
The Pirates lost their second straight game and fell to 7-3-1 and 3-2.
Harris scored from 18 yards out in the 40th minute and Briana Lopez made it 2-0 with a rebound goal in the 66th minute. Maddie Shaw sent a ball into Harris, who beat the keeper from the left side in the 88th minute.
It was the second straight shutout and fourth of the season for goalie Brianna Robinson, who made an outstanding save in the 77th minute.
“We played very, very well and this was a great win,” said coach John Sisterson. “We competed very well. It could have been 3-0 at halftime.”
