Lauren Dickson buried a 20-yard shot with 30 seconds to go in the first half on Tuesday night and SBCC settled for a 1-1 women’s soccer tie with Moorpark at La Playa Stadium.
Olivia Hicks gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead after a Vaquero turnover in the 32nd minute. It was the second straight 1-1 tie for Santa Barbara (4-3-2, 1-0-2 WSC North) and the sixth tie of the year for Moorpark (1-2-6, 0-1-1).
Jackie Holmer assisted on Dickson’s fourth goal of the year.
“I saw the lane down the middle,” said Dickson. a freshman midfielder from Quartz Hill. “The ball came to my right foot and I knew I wasn’t going to be able to turn inside, so I decided to take a touch more outside. I saw the lane with my left foot and went for the far post.”
The Vaqueros outshot Moorpark 14-12, including 8-6 in the second half. SBCC enjoyed an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.
“It was very important not to go into halftime a goal down,” said coach John Sisterson. “To get a goal just before the half gives you a real boost.
“We started a little slowly and got some momentum in the second half. You like to win your home games and we felt like we could have won this one.”
