Tara Haarland Ford made it through six-plus hours of surgery a week ago at USC’s Keck Hospital, her husband, Jon, reported to Presidio Sports on Wednesday.
Tara, 40, and a respected criminal defense attorney in Santa Barbara and a mother of two, is battling stage 4 colon cancer. She is the beneficiary of the Friendship Paddle and Pedal, which will take place Oct. 18-19. The paddle, from Santa Cruz Island to the Santa Barbara Yacht Club beach, is full. But there are openings for the pedal.
“They got all the tumors they could find and were looking for,” Jon, a Santa Barbara County Firefighter, said in an email. “Most likely, she’ll need six more months of chemo for the final kill to get anything left.”
It was the second surgery for Tara, who was diagnosed last November. She had eight inches of her colon removed in the first surgery.
Jon added that Tara is still at Keck Hospital, but he hopes she’ll be coming home in the next couple of days.
Tara has a web site, in which she writes about her fight. Click here.
