Aaron Solis, who led the San Marcos boys golf team to two CIF-Southern Section championships and three divisional titles, is returning to the helm of the program, the school announced.
Solis is replacing David Siordia, who resigned to pursue a new career path. Siordia was a walk-on coach. Solis has been a member of the San Marcos staff since 1991. He is currently serving as the Activities Director.
“I am very excited to come back to the golf program,” he said. “This is a fantastic group of student-athletes to work with and it will be a lot of fun to compete and reach our goals this year.”
Solis has a history of success as a coach. Besides the CIF titles, his teams won five Channel League boys titles. His 2004 boys squad reached the CIF State Tournament and finished in fifth place. He also coached the girls golf team from 1999-2004 and won a league title in 1999 and a CIF-SS Academic Team championship in 2003.
Solis also coached the girls basketball team from 2000-2004. His 2003 team reached the CIF quarterfinals, the farthest any girls team has advanced in school history. His 2004 team won an Academic Team championship.
Solis has also served on CIF committees. He’s been a member of the golf advisory committee since 2008 and has been responsible for directing boys and girls championship competitions, including the boys individual finals last May at La Purisima Golf Course.
