Michael Nettesheim threw two touchdowns for Cate’s 8-man football team on Saturday but it was not enough as Desert Chapel left the Mesa with a 40-13 non-league victory.
Desert Chapel, a school with an enrollment barely over 50 from Palm Springs, is the No. 1 ranked team in Division 2.
The Rams, ranked No. 4 in Division 1, fell behind 38-0 in the first half. Nettesheim’s 14-yard pass to Abraham Tall gave Cate the first score of the second half. Nettesheim then connected with Dean Smith for a 25-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
Cate falls to 4-2 on the season with its two losses coming to the No. 1 ranked teams in the two 8-man divisions. The Rams return to Condor League play next Saturday at Dunn.
