SBCC scored three goals in the last six minutes of the first half Tuesday night and went on to blank Glendale 6-0 in its men’s soccer home finale at La Playa Stadium.
Adam Colton had a goal and an assist for the hometown Vaqueros (8-6, 8-4), who won for the fifth time in six games.
Santa Barbara outshot Glendale (2-14-1, 1-11) by a 13-3 count in the first half.
Liron Cohen got his first goal of the year in the 40th minute on an assist from Colton. Omar Montalvo was tripped in the box two minutes later and Colton buried the PK into the lower right corner. In the 45th minute, Alex Santana delivered a corner kick right onto the foot of Jelan Hutton, who made it 3-0.
After hitting the right post and being stymied on three other solid first-half scoring chances, Kieron Coleman pounced on a mishandled ball by the keeper and boosted the lead to 4-0 in the 58th minute.
“The midfield created a lot of chances for us, Jamie (Sporcic) on the left wing is class,” said Coleman, a freshman from London, England. “Being a striker, you always have to be aware and it’s nice to get a goal on the scoresheet.”
George Wakefield scored in the 70th minute, despite playing with a broken hand, and Barnaby Hitchcock made it 6-0 by beating a defender and the goalie for the final score with four minutes to play.
Ellis Mavers assisted on the last two goals.
The Vaqueros outshot Glendale 23-8, including 11-3 in shots on goal.
“We created a lot of opportunities in the first half but we couldn’t get on the end of it,” said coach John Sisterson. “Once the first one went in, things changed. We talked to the boys at halftime about why it sometimes takes a goal to settle them down and start doing the right things.”
SBCC plays its final four matches on the road, starting with Friday’s 4 p.m. match against L.A. Mission at the Sepulveda Basin Sports Complex.
