Oxnard scored late in each half on Friday to record a 2-0 shutout of visiting SBCC in a key men’s soccer showdown between the top two teams in the Western State Conference.
The first-place Condors (10-5-1, 9-1-1) scored in the 38th and 85th minutes to extend their lead over the Vaqueros (7-6, 7-4) to seven points with five matches remaining. SBCC had its four-game winning streak snapped.
“We started off well with a couple of good chances in the first five minutes,” said coach John Sisterson. “In the second half, we were very, very unfortunate not to have three penalty kicks awarded. It was disappointing because the guys were pushing forward and playing better.”
The Vaqueros will host Glendale on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
