City College couldn’t keep pace with a high-powered L.A. Pierce attack and fell, 53-42, for its first football loss of the season Saturday night in Woodland Hills.
The Vaqueros battled back from a 21-0 deficit in the second quarter and tied the score in the third quarter. The tying touchdown came on a 34-yard reverse pass from Giovanni Sanders to Jacob Arnell.
Pierce scored two more touchdowns to go up 34-21. But SBCC cut the deficit to six when defensive back Tavonte Jackson returned an interception 69 yards for a touchdown.
Pierce regained control of the game and pulled away behind the play of quarterback Nick Arbuckle. He threw five touchdown passes for the Brahmas, who improve to 4-0 in the American Pacific Conference and 6-1 overall.
SBCC is 3-1 and 6-1.
Jarred Evans returned to the starting quarterback spot for the Vaqueros and threw for two touchdowns and ran for a score. Evans had been suspended for breaking team rules.
