PRE-GAME INTRO: No. 1-ranked Bishop Diego (5-0) hosts crosstown rival Carpinteria (5-0) tonight in annual Little Big Game. The clash of unbeatens happens to be the Tri-Valley League opener for both teams. Both teams are 5-0 and ranked in their division as the Warriors enter the game at No. 4.
The teams will meet on the turf field at Santa Barbara City College’s La Playa Stadium.

FOURTH QUARTER
GAME OVER – Bishop Diego’s top-ranked football team defeats previously undefeated Carpinteria 24-6 in Saturday night’s Little Big Game. It’s the third-straight win for the Cardinals in the crosstown rivalry series.
2:55 – From the five-yard line, Abel Gonzalez takes the rock into the end zone on a run to the left-side outside the tackles. Gonzalez scores his second TD of the game to give him seven rushing touchdowns for the season. Bishop Diego 24, Carpinteria 6
4:12 – John Samson intercepts for Bishop Diego to take the life out of Carpinteria’s comeback attempt. With limited time left on the clock, the Cardinals are in great position to add to their lead as they have a first down in the red zone.
6:09 – Joel Montes runs for a first down on a fake-punt play by Carpinteria. The play keeps the Warriors’ drive alive, and Craddock finds Ruben Garcia on the sideline for another first down.
8:10 – Carpinteria takes possession right back as Jose Sanchez recovers another fumble on Bishop’s first snap. The Warriors start on their own seven-yard line.
8:40 – Pass completions to Keven Stein and Bryson Frazer gives the Warriors two more first downs, but then the Cardinals knock the ball free from Craddock and Abel Gonzalez recovers, taking the ball down to Carpinteria’s eight-yard line.
11:13 – The Warriors convert a 4th down-and-1 on a two-yard gain by Ian Craddock. Carpinteria now has 1st-and-10 on its own 31-yard line.
THIRD QUARTER
End of Quarter – Carpinteria holds possession deep in its own territory at the end of the third period.
7:01 – Bishop Diego’s Abel Gonzalez breaks free for a 34-yard scoring run, shaking off one final tackler at the five-yard line. The Cardinals defense forced a fumble to gain possession. Bishop Diego 17, Carpinteria 6
HALFTIME
Carpinteria’s second-quarter touchdown was the first time this season that Bishop Diego had even trailed in a game. In five contests, Bishop Diego outscored its opponents 219-19. In fact, Carpinteria is only the second team in six opponents to score a TD against Bishop Diego this season. The Cardinals have recorded three shutouts in their five games.
Football player Jack Braniff was named Homecoming King during the halftime ceremony along with Homecoming Queen Talia Van Wingerden.
SECOND QUARTER
0:00 – After a quick 3-and-out from Carpinteria, Bishop Diego charges down the field again and kicks a field goal as time expires. Bishop Diego 10, Carpinteria 6
2:21 – On the very next play, from the 12-yard line, quarterback Anthony Carter throws to a wide-open Thomas Lash in the back of the end zone. The score completed an 88-yard drive. Bishop Diego 7, Carpinteria 6
2:28 – Bishop Diego is trying to get in the end zone before the break. The Cardinals have not been held scoreless in a half yet this season.
5:45 – Fans are still entering La Playa Stadium more than half-way through the second quarter. The stands are mostly full with Bishop Diego driving. The Cardinals started on their own 12-yard line but have advanced to Carpinteria’s 49-yard line. Abel Gonzalez gained 40 yards on one carry.
7:15 – Carpinteria’s defense forces Bishop Diego’s defense to punt again. A sack by Bishop Diego’s Nolan Tooley on third down returns the favor to Carpinteria, and Joel Montes punts it back to the Cardinals.
9:23 – Ian Craddock finds Peter Ramos for a 19-yard touchdown pass that gives the Warriors an early lead. Craddock scrambles to his left on a broken play before finding Ramos right at the goal line. The drive included a long run by Craddock. Carpinteria 6, Bishop Diego 0
12:00 – The first period ends with no score but with Carpinteria threatening, holding a first down on Bishop Diego’s 26 yard line.
