Cydney Pierce and Peyton Shelburne combined for 21 kills, and second-ranked Cate opened Condor League play with a sweep of Providence on Wednesday.
Pierce had 11 kills and Shelburne 10 in the Rams’ 25-10, 25-12, 25-12 win. They are now 6-0 on the season.
Coach Greg Novak praised the play of his middles, Xandrine Griffin and Lydia McMahon. He also cited libero Sumner Matthews.
“She’s a firecracker on the court,” he said of Matthews, who had a 2.3 passing percentage and picked up 12 digs.
Ozie LeSage had seven kills and Katie Hodson added five to lead Providence.
“While the girls played hard and gave it their best effort, ultimately, they were just outplayed and overmatched by a very strong Cate squad,” said Providence assistant coach Dale Colburn. “At times, we competed very well against the bigger, stronger Rams, but we were not as consistent as we needed to be, and they just had too many weapons for us to handle.”
Cate plays host to Laguna Blanca on Saturday in a battle of No. 1 vs. No. 2 in CIF Division 4A.
