John Gannon witnessed a first in his volleyball coaching career at Santa Barbara High Thursday night.
The Dons placed four players in double digits for kills in a 25-15, 25-23, 20-25, 25-20 Channel League victory at Ventura.
“I’ve never seen that done,” said Gannon. “We were really balanced. We had a fifth girl with eight kills.”
Jackie Starnes led the Dons with 11 kills and Tessa Dewell, Katie Gallivan and Caroline Anderson added 10 kills apiece. Jessyca Beksa contributed eight kills.
Besides the tremendous balance, Gannon was pleased how the Dons executed in the middle.
“We got more out of our middles than in any match we’ve played so far,”he said.
Setter Lexi Rottman played brilliantly, dishing out 49 assists and serving seven aces.
The Dons improve to 5-1 in league play and 13-8 overall.
