In a battle of CIF ranked tennis teams, Division 5 top-ranked Carpinteria defeated Thacher, the No. 6 team in Division 4, 14-4.
“This was a good test for us as Thacher was a very balanced team with no real weak spots,” Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant. “We had many close sets along the way that we eeked out but I was very proud of the effort the girls put in today.”
Carpinteria’s No. 1 doubles team of Natalie Saito-Lesly Zapata swept their three sets and look like a veteran team even after only playing two matches together, said coach Bryant. No. 2 doubles, Merissa Souza-Gabi Montes De Oca, also swept and toughed out a couple close sets.
In singles, No. 3 Kassandra Ni went 3-0 while top-ranked Kelsie Bryant went 2-0.
Carpinteria is 8-1 on the season.
