Carpinteria captured its third straight Frontier League girls tennis title with a 15-3 win over Nordhoff on Thursday.
The Warriors swept the nine singles sets and turned in a solid performance in doubes.
“I was really impressed with our doubles as they showed a tremendous amount of fight when they were down, and an amazing resilience throughout their sets,” said Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant.
Lesly Zapata-Natalie Saito lost their first set 6-4 but battled back from a 5-1 deficit. They went on to win their next two sets 6-0. No. 2 Makenna Pike-Emily Saito overcame a 4-1 deficit to beat the Rangers No. 2 team 7-5. They finished the day 1-1.
“But easily the set of the day belonged to No. 3 Merissa Souza-Gabi Montes De Oca who went toe to toe with Nordhoff’s top doubles team and played almost flawless tennis,” Bryant said. “This is the type of set I have been waiting for just knowing what they are capable of. Although it was the last set of the day, it really gave our team an inspirational boost.”
Kelsie Bryant, Odessa Stork and Kassandra Ni dominated in singles.
