The cross-country teams at UCSB earned second-place finishes at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale on Saturday.
Dani Moreno led the way once again for the women, running the 6k course in 20:29.3, good for fourth of all participating runners. Maxine Goyette finished 9th with a 20:51.9 effort. Christine Cooperstein and Sarah Schreck had solid runs of their own, finishing with 21:13.1 and 21:19.7 times respectively.
The surprising performance of the day was provided by Bryan Guijarro, who finished first on the men’s team and fourth overall with an 8k time of 23:57.6. Anthony Ortolan and Bryce Rausa finished in the top 20 as well with 24:20.1 and 24:31.2 runs.
Taking first for the women was Loyola Marymount, which had a pair of runners finish in the top three for the race. For the men, Loyola Marymount also bested the competition, providing an outstanding team performance where all five of its runners were in the top 30, and two in the top five.
The Gauchos return to action this Friday at the Cal State Fullerton Invitational in Fullerton, California. It will be the last race they run before participating in the Big West Championships.
