Cole Smith ran his best race at the Clovis Invitational and the Dos Pueblos girls had their best finish on Saturday at Woodward Park.
In the Championship Girls race, DP finished 11th, an improvement of seven places from last year and lowered its team time by 3 1/2 minutes. Addi Zerrenner finished 12th to lead the Chargers. Her time was 18:17.
Cole’s 3-mile time of 15:35 beat Max Davis’ mark from last season and lowered his previous best on the time by over a minute, said coach Leslie Wiggins Roth. The other DP finishers were Andrew McGuan (33rd, 15:50), Ian Wasjutin (77th, 16:20), John Greening (91st, 16:28) and Chris Wasjutin (92nd, 16:28).
The Charger boys finished in eighth place.
The DP girls ran in a field that included the best teams in all division from all regions of the state.
“Considering at least four of the teams in our race were either not in our division or section, it was a great showing for the girls, and our best showing in team history,” said Roth.
Following Zerrener were Christina Rice ( 67th, 19:19), Elaine McClure (70th, 19:21), Natalie McClure (71st, 19:21) and Tatiann Schluep (103rd, 19:53).
