Cate’s Charlotte Monke went out hard and never let up in winning a Condor League cross country race Wednesday at Cate.
Monke covered the three-mile course in 20:18, a half-minute faster than her previous best time on the Cate course and the fourth fastest girls time in program history. Rainbow Wang of Cate ran 22:03 to finish seventh in the race.
Thacher won the girls team competition, with runners coming in second through sixth place. The Toads had 20 points, followed by Cate with 51, Ojai Valley (74) and Midland (117).
The other Cate finishers were: Jasmine Paz (15th, 23:17, Lacy Douglas (17th, 23:28), Luisa Ilvento (20th, 23:55) Emily Duong (22nd, 24:28), and Caroline Montgomery (23rd, 24:49). They all lowered their times on the course.
On the boys side, Cate senior Andrew Robins finished second with the second-best course time of 16:46, improving by more than minute over last year. Andrew Sinclair (7th, 17:16) took second for the Rams, followed by freshman Dylan Ell (11th, 17:48), junior Ralph McAvoy (12th, 17:51), and senior Edward Zhu (18th, 18:36.
Laguna Blanca’s Cooper Farrell finished fifth in a personal best of 17:13 Mikey Hawker was next the Owl to finish in a time of 17:39 for 10th overall. Bill Mortensen (18:26) and Kylan Tyng (18:42) both made it into the top 20 overall. Connor Curran rounded out Laguna’s top 5 (20:27).
Laguna’s Nadia Belton finished 16th in the girls race in 23:26, two full minutes faster than her race in Ojai just a few weeks ago.
Thacher won the team title with 20 points. Cate scored 48 points to finish second followed by Laguna Blanca (78), Midland (103), Dunn, Ojai Valley and Besant Hill.
