Westmont Volleyball suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday night, falling 3-1 (25-27, 25-16, 25-19, 25-23) to the Cougars of Cal State San Marcos. The ninth ranked Warriors produced an attack percentage of just .106 as they committed 27 hitting errors.
The Warriors won their first 12 matches of the season,
Westmont (12-1) jumped out to an 18-10 lead in the first set, but gave up 10 of the next 12 points to surrender the lead at 20-all. The Cougars (15-7) gave served for game point twice, but Westmont came back with three straight points to claim the first set.
The second and third set belonged to the Cougars throughout. Westmont hit just .081 in the second set and .031 in the third while San Marcos pounded the ball for a .406 and .273 attack percentage respectively.
The Cougars started off the fourth set with a 5-0 run and pushed on to take a 14-8 advantage. The Warriors rallied, however, to tie the game at 20 before going ahead 23-22. But Cal State San Marcos recorded three kills in a row to take set and the match.
